Burner needs to have threaded access for flow and return pipes to be fitted, if you don't have these you can't do it. Please remember if you looking to do this you are utilising hot water under pressure, please seek professional advice to ensure you safety.

Good luck.

I looked in to this a few years ago. I now have a purpose made wood stove with built in boiler.

I thought if I wrapped a coil or rows of uprights of copper round my flue it would collect waste heat, this is already done and they are called flue robbers and other names. They are troublesome because the heat is needed up the flue or chimney to exhaust the gas, If it cools to soon you get bad flow of air and heavy creosoting of flue, leading to regular cleaning.

However water heaters are made that are a tank with a flue through the middle and a little open fire in a grate underneath. So this principle must work to a degree.

Depending on your model of boiler you can take out the fire bricks and fit a tank/back boiler or clip one on the outside.

Unless I was doing it in an outbuilding/workshop. I wouldn't tamper with existing stove setup unless there is a made to fit boiler. Because its simple enough to start with but then you have to abide by regs. Other costs incurred such as dump valves, pumps etc. It could end up being a big headache.

However I'd be interested if you do have success.
