Youre right - I've worked for e few in the past that I don't ever want to meet again.

I drove past a gap in Bognor where a big pine once stood - Nice removal!

Near Silverstone Rd - was that the one you were telling me about. I remember it was a big old fella.

PS that avatar cracks me up you must find those wolly undies quite itchy.

Yeah it probably the same tree :001_cool:

hmmm the pipe is an mdpe pipe there are mechanical fittings for use on these pipes which the gas board use as well as the electrofusion type they are available for anyone to buy but Technically the pipe should be repaired by the GB :( who charge gold for doing it !

the fittings are similar to those used for water pipes but are designed for gas use !

i have seen them felt them and used them ! (when i was working for a gas engineer )

Its a pee take that the chap was just going to site in his van reading the Sun for 4 hours when it could have been repaired by him in 10 minutes tops.

my old man works for sgn as a first call oprative. the man sat in the van is what they call a first call operative.. its his job to access the situation, moniter it and keep it safe until an engineiring crew turn up, and then moniter it to keep them safe.

it is more than a 10 minit job, theyd have to cut the section out, elcrtofuse (plastic weld) a joint fitting in and then test ect.. + risk assesment on arival.

the legislation on pipe depths is well covered as already said. good thinking with the tape to try stop the leak..

i remember me old boss hitting a steel gas pipe a few years ago and knocked all his cutters of all round the wheel and just scratched the pipe.

  • 2 months later...

Nearly 3 months have passed since I hit the gas pipe and I didnt get sent a bill :001_smile:

I thought Id update the thread and thank everybody that gave advice.

My tip to members is to always carry a camera or take pics with a phone, I think it was the fact I had proof of the shallow pipe and didnt role over when the chap turn up from the gas board that I didnt get charged.
