Here you go mate. Think it'll be easier if I do them a couple at a time!!

Equipment for whipping. Scissors or knife, Flat pliers, needle and twine and Sail makers palm.

Cut about 5 hand spans worth of twine and thread the needle, doubling it up

Push needle through as close to the eye as you can and pull thread all the way through so it just disappears into the rope. Do this on the bury side.

Because I am a heavy handed muppet, I find that if you are pulling the thread through it can shoot out the other side, so leaving a couple of mm on the first go (first pic in this one) and then pulling it tight once the second cross stitch goes in can help stop the swearing!!:thumbup1:

Once the thread has gone completely through, repeat this step so the thread goes through the rope 4 times. Make sure you pull the thread tight so it sits at flat as possible. It will make the whipping neater when you're done!!:thumbup1:

This first picture is the needle exiting the rope on the 4 stitch. Once you have done this, wrap the thread around the rope going upwards towards the splice.

Once you have wrapped up the rope, push the needle through when you have covered the 4 stitches, as a rule of thumb they reckon you should wrap the diameter of the rope.

Once you have stitched all the way through the rope pass the needle all the way 'over' the stitching that you have just done and insert it into the 'bottom' of the wraps. I think these are called frapping turns, (although I might be wrong!!:blushing:) Try to make sure that these don't twist as you put them through, (unless you want them to, but that is a bit frisky for me!!)

Once you find the needle coming out of the 'bottom' of the wrapping and its ready to go back through the 'top' (I hope that this is making sense!!) Push the needle downwards through the centre of the whipping so it comes out underneath all of what you have just done. (picture 3)

Once you've pulled everything through, put the needle back in the same exit hole and repeat. Pull the thread through and just massage the cover to make it disappear. (pic 3 and 4)
