Wicked, really shows the tree loosing the battle to keep it contained. I had a nice bit of ash recently, again loosing the battle but against innonotus hispidus. A few hours after cutting the very edge of the infection (where the fungus met fresh wood) oxidised to a wierd blue colour! i should really get a camera.

 

Hispidus is a different relationship, I will elaborate later in a dedicated thread

an interesting article that hints at a decline in population is happening, due to many factors but reproduction rates are slowing across the board.

 

While it suggests this is poor for economy, to me it signals hope for the global system/ecology

I don't know if the population will slow really that quickly. In places like Western Europe due to the aging population and fewer people of working age immigration will have to rise because someone will need to pay for the retired.

As people round the world become in general better off the strain on resources will become greater which may lead to worse environmental problems even with a smaller population.
