Damaged chain advice

It all depends on how you look at the situation .Just one tie strap is not a big deal .

I've cut a lot of 24" down to 20" or 20" down to 16" to salvage a chain .It doesn't take any special tools but it does take some expertise to hand peen a chain .If done correctly it's just as strong as a spun rivet .

Fact this past spring I repaired about 20 loops I had acquired over the years from a few tree trimmers who either rocked them or derailed and bent the drivers .All I had in them was a few pennies for a preset and tie strap plus about 10 minutes of my time on each .Then again I have a spinner, they were not hand peened which takes longer

Where are you Pasty M? If you're near to Ipswich pop into Sproughton Garden Machinery and ask for Albert, he's very knowledgeable on everything to do with saws and will soon advise you on best route to take Inc dropping in a new link.

Went in and saw Albert yesterday. Broken rivet replaced for £1.50. Hopefully I'll get another 4 weeks out of that chain now!

Thanks for the tip Andy:thumbup:
