Steel wires layed over 'flared' durable butressing & drilled/inserted to depth (?)

David, I have within my garden a Cedrus atlantica Glauca which appears to have girdled roots and would appreciate if you could give your opinion on this.

These girdles do look like they will potentialy become a significant constriction for the tree as time goes on.

 

I think it prudent to expose and investigate the issue further.

I guess I'm thinking more around retention of DST's specifically rather than newly planted or other live,

but imagine the principal is very similar.

Out inspecting a specific host population today & came across this aerial girdler on a hedgrow Wild Service tree (Oliphant)

Great shots--girdlers associated with Dysfunction, again and again. Amazing dogleg on that adventitious buttress-turned-girdler--what made it turn like that do you suppose?

I'm keen to use those big terra-toggles on a DST (dead standing tree?) or better a living one, but the stars have not yet thus aligned.

Referring to these points.........

 

 

"1. Flip four uneven panels back, away from the tree.

2. Cover the exposed roots with native soil mixed 1:1 with composted Maclura leaves and amended to fit conditions.

3. Apply expanded slate aggregate and coarse sand to provide a stable subbase.

4. Flip the panels back and orient them to minimize risk of tripping."

Here in an urban park from earlier today, a red oak with a girdle that may get a further inspection.

 

Few days down the line & we were back to look at a paddling pool root damage issue and had the time to inspect the above oak whilst there.

Noticeable straight away is that the girdling here is coming from nieghbouring vegetation. (young ash)
