Spikes are usually covered in the climber's talk section.

 

Ref the £80 ebay spikes, I had - have - a set of these. Use the forum search for 'cheap spikes' and you'll find a couple of threads about it.

 

Some people have found they snapped at the fixing holes in the shank.

Some have found them to be uncomfortable.

Some have found the gaffs very soft.

 

My personal experience was of the second 2 issues.

Thankfully I never experienced catastrophic failure.

 

They're honestly not very good, being absolutely diplomatic about it. I used them for a while on a 'needs must' basis but have since bought a set of ali Bashlins for similar money off eBay.

That said, while using them I got on fine, discomfort aside.

I wouldn't recommend them particularly but as I have said before, I'm still alive!

 

Better off keeping your eyes peeled for some used 'proper' spikes, or save another hundred quid and get some Distels. What's another £100 in real terms these days anyway? Have a weekend at home reading a book instead of going out....!
