Hi just wondering if anyone has had experience of Jensen chipper blades snapping whilst in the machine ??. Today i was removing the blades from our A240 that we have just bought , my intention was to get them sharpened as they were blunt but on removing the first blade i noticed that the first 1/4 of the blade had snapped and that the middle of the blade was cracked to the point it was only just held together !!! these blades are not genuine Jensen blades but they are from a well known supplier of which i have bought several sets of blades for our other chipper from .

To be honest im guite shocked that they were in this condition and so glad that we didnt test or put the chipper strait to work !!

When you spend a large sum on a machine is it worth saving a few quid on 'cheap' blades.

Along with the bearings the blades are at the heart of the process.

The saving (£20??) is far outweighed by the risk (mullered machine/ injured operator/member of public) IMO.

Flat blades can break because they have over sharpened and there is not enough meat left between cutting edge and blade holes, or the rotor isn't flat or they have been "bent" over something when torqued down. That or they have tried to chip the unchippable! If blades are too hard then they can be brittle, too soft and they wear too quick....
