That hornbeam is just begging for some support, aka a cable...

 

Reduction of the lapsed poles back toward the old pollard head is the potential aim for the majority of the trees in that avenue of hornbeam pollards.

Time and resource are the obstacles that need to be overcome to achieve that aim.

 

Some debate was given over what should be the destiny of these trees. Should vogue for a return to a pastiche of wood pasture be the focus, or should the maintaining of continued habitat niche be the driving force for keeping these trees from self destructing.

 

Would be very interesting to return in 10 years to see what will have been done to them.

 

Currently, a releasing from the canopy from the coniferous cash crop that was planted around them is the ongoing priority.
