Oh dear.

This morning was NOT fun. Well today anyway. A good Father's Day at home but not this morning.

Pager call at 05.15, fisherman in trouble and making way back to Dover but not going to make it into the harbour.

Severed his arm while fishing the boat, not a pretty site, looked more like a crush injury than a full sever.

So first aid I idolatry administered and the bleeding stemmed, brought back to shore while me and another crew memeber brought his boat back in. Man taken to hospital and seen to.

A good shout and managed to save a life today.

So now its off for a good sleep. Night all.

Had a good sleep earlier. Even tho the other said I did nothing but moan and move about. Was reliving today's events in my sleep.

Had text from crew members on my phone.

The fisherman has had an amputation of his arm. Not a good thing i suppose but at least he still has his life.

  • 3 weeks later...

Three callouts ove rather weekend.

One was a speedboat with engine failure and drifting into he shipping lanes. Towed back into shore and recovered.

Second was an inflatable in the water off folkestone. No one in it and it was just drifting, full area search by us and coastguard mobile team. Nothing seen.

Third was flares off the beach. About a mile out. A rib was having engine trouble, was overheating. Not a good thing to happen in a large rib. Mechanics attended to the ribs engine and managed to sort the issue. The thermostat wasn't working so no water was getting into it. Soon sorted and rib escorted back in.

A busy one.

Last night shout.

A yacht with a fouled prop. Fishing net caught up in it. With no wind and the tide pushing the yacht into the shipping lanes it turned into a big danger of the yacht being rammed. Lifeboat arrived on scene at 20.18.

Provided a buffer while the daughter boat was launched to investigate the net. No help could be given so daughter boat recovered and yacht towed into Dover harbour.

Lifeboat refuelled and ready for service at 23.30.

Then it was up early for me to get the lifeboat exhibit gear off to the war and peace show.

If anyone from arbtalk is going pop over to the stand and ask for Richard. Would be nice to see a few arbtalkers. I'm there all week expet Thursday.
