boiler stoves

:lol::lol::lol: we are talking about british buildings here - airtightness requirements are causing the UK building industry a few headaches and generating a lot of resistance

They are, as it putting a stove into such a property that does not have a direct air supply system. I was talking to one of my developer clients recently about this and how they overcame the issue. Believe it or not they seal the air vent for the period of the test, have my doubts that's legal but what else could you do. The building gets passed by the local inspection team.

I saw a programme about a house that was built into the side of a hill, it was so air tight that it became damp and the air rank in the rooms that weren't used much.

They ended up using fans to circulate the air. Burning electricity to circulate air seemed to be a bit crazy seeing as air is free and flows readily through the gaps in my non air tight home.

Having run a 20KW stove for the last 20 years without the benefit of an outside vent I can assure you that a few holes under doors etc provide more than adequate draft.

But a room sealed system would be better :001_smile:

Is it just me or isn't the concept of an airtight house just totally bonkers?

Air tight houses need HRVs
