Help! Best way to get started?

My ambition is to get my foot in the door for now. Really all i want is the minimum to able to get a job then build up my skills and experience from there. If i could get a job at the bottom with just the four tickets (CS30,CS31,CS38,CS39) then i would be tempted to jack college in and do it. It's a risk seen as though i'm already enrolled at college, i'm just looking for advice for the best way to go.

go for it, and suss all the climbing things, best to do your cs32 and 40/41 too, once you have got your tickets and a bit of experience your wages will be good.

Hey mate I'm in the same boat. Just starting out.

I considered arb at uni but other tree surgeons put me off it, told me to get cs 30/31/38 and that way an arb can take you on and train you up. I've got mine booked for dec. If your a chancer they'll maybe get you through the rest of your tickets.

I'd imagine if you had both it would certainly be a benefit?!just time consuming.

Tell me if I'm wrong folks, only going by what I've been told.

Thanks for the advice. Trailer licence is also on my list of things to do.

I'm looking for work in Devon/Cornwall. I have created another thread in the employment section to see if i can get a bit of experience. Hopefully someone will see that.

Cheers guys!

I live near Okehampton but don't mind travelling to get some experience.

If you could PM me your contact details I may be able to offer you a few days if your willing to travel to Princetown, I do tree surgery and countryside management in and around Dartmoor- this could be anything from removing tree tubes, fencing, hedgelaying, woodland work to typical tree work like felling, reductions dismantles etc so you would get to experiance a range of tree related services

Have you registered yourself as self employed?

Thanks Matt
