Surely if logs had to be purchased from a Hetas certified supplier this would satisfy the fuel quality and environmental credentials. This could be seen as a positive by professional firewood outfits, differentiating their product.

The RHI has suffered from being the last of the renewable schemes to be implemented. The wind and solar sector have had most of the cream.

I think having accredited suppliers would be the answer and it would also help reputable firewood merchants.

I also think that rather than giving no grant support for log gasification boilers they could at least provide some element of support. People do not have the money to buy these systems outright but if it can be financed somehow and it still works out cheaper than oil, then people will consider it.

I just think this is a good technology that is going to be overlooked now which is a real shame.

I've just checked the energy saving trust website and they updated the biomass RHI tarriffs on 2nd dec. For applications received from 1st October to 31st December the RHI falls to 6.43p/kWh and from 1st Jan to 31st March 16 it drops again to 5.14p

That's less than half what it was when I signed up a year ago - as a wise man once said, if your going to do it, do it quickly....
