husqvarna 540xpt at the APF

Personally I think they've played a blinder. At the last APF they showed the world what was coming, they forced Stihls hand to push out the 201t quickly, and erroneously. The result was an own goal for Stihl, and you know the rest. That gave Husky the time to perfect their saw, without the pressure of trying to beat Stilhl, they just will now. I was told that the original 540 was on a par performance wise with the older 200t, but that wasn't enough, they wanted to be leaps and bounds ahead, so they tweaked more out of the engine. husky couldn't afford to bring out another unsuccessful topping saw, after the 335/8 run of saws. I think they are quite happy with this one now, but proof is in e pudding.

Well said andy and just what I have been saying all along.

The husky was not on sale at the apf for the reason if they had given dealers a load of them to sell then they would of put them on low price sale there for husky thought this would devalue there product so waiting till october and then putting them on sale would eliminate that risk. In huskys defence all the way when they first brought out the saw 2 years ago they had problems but problems they could not help....the carb was one as they had the carb sorted then when they started to build things were off, they could not work out why?until the carb manufactors told them that they were using different carbs there for making a butterfly affect on the rest of the saw, now for those who did attend the show and ask why it was not for sale would of received this info, but clearly no one was bothered enough to listen.......or maybe it was the case of yeah yeah heard it all before......I don't know. I do know though that once it's out I think it will ruin the ms 201t.......

I would agree with most of what you have said Andy and having trialed on of the prototypes for a couple months i would certainly agree that the 504 is way ahead of anything that Stihl has ever had on the market with regard to Top Handled saws . My biggest disappointment is That Husky have Given numerous release dates for the saw which goes back as far as the last APF

, even when trialing the saw we were told that it would be available in January this year , then it was August and then it would be out in time for the APF and then when i inquired at the beginning of this month i was told that Suppliers would have them in stock for October but its most likely that they wil not be on sale until January !!!!! Clearly Husky did not Have a saw that was anywhere near ready to be released two years ago and maybe they should have kept the release date quiet untill they were sure of the product ! Im not a big Stihl fan but im fairly sure i have never seen a product advertised in their sales catalog for two years running that is not even in the stages of final production let alone available in the uk !! surely that is false advertising .

Anyway al that aside i will be ordering a couple just as soon as i can
