Changing 3/8p to .325 on an ms250

I'd like to upgrade my ms250 to .325 chain from 3/8p. I realise I will need a new drive sprocket, and bar - thats cool. But a dealer I spoke to reckons the 250's oil pump wont be up to the task: I want to put a small (.325) 13" bar on the 250 when the drive sprocket conversion is complete. DO you guys think this move is feasible then or what?

Thanks Lads.

Hi,

For the amount of cost chain/bar/sprocket etc.

You might be better to upgrade the whole saw,to a more pro machine.

I have a 261 as well, but want to balance the 2 saw's use. I like the 250 with short bar for rhody clearing etc. I am going to buy the shorter 13" bar irrespectively, so really its just a drive sprocket addition. Thanks though.

The MS250 should come with .325 as standard. They can run upto an 18" bar on .325 so not sure why the dealer told you that, or why it's on 3/8p?

I know the new 251 is def. .325 now as standard. Any older 250 seems to run on 3/8p here in Ireland for some reason? thanks though.

I can't see the problem dropping from 3/8 to .325, look on 'mister solutions' for parts. I have a 280 which from new had an 18"bar on .325 but the chain was apt to coming off so dropped to 16" no probs. On the ms280 I fitted an 8T.325:thumbup1: sproket against the 7T on a ms260, again runs fine - bit more wizz, if you are down to a 13" bar it may work for you. (I fitted a 16" bar to my 460 with a 8T 3/8 sprocket = awesome)

Not sure why he said that ref the oiler - it doesn't really make a difference to oiling what pitch the chain is.

As said .325 is standard on the MS250.

You can buy a bar, chain and sprocket off my website Chainsawbars ? bars, chains and chainsaw accessories although the postage may be expensive for S.Ireland. I can ship up to 25kg for £25-00+vat but whether it's 1kg or 25kg that's what it costs me.
