I agree with you there gardenkit. If they are going to sell them at least have the common decency to have someone who can explain safe operation of it.

Questions of who should buy the saw aside, could it not be a useful chipper/fencing saw/ With a full three year guarantee, what is the worst that could happen?

A guarantee does not stop it from breaking, it merely means that they will repair it, or replace it eventually.

 

It most likely WILL break down, It most likely will be a bad starter, the chain brake will likely fail, the oiler be poor and the clutch will be weak.

 

You will likely spend more time without it than with it.

 

Why bother, put your money towards something better, that is backed not only by guarantee, but by service and parts.

My experience with Aldi and Lidl over the years is that the guarantee is a money back guarantee. If it breaks, you take it back (often without receipt) and your money is refunded without question. I don't think any other retailer gives you such a good guarantee.

side tracking slightly I see lidls are selling a little electric pole pruner. I only need it for my garden but there is 1.5 acres of it. Anybody tried one out ? I would not consider it for hard pro use but we have got some bits of parkside kit that gets used in the business and not been a problem.

I've had a gardentec one for three years now, brought it from netto when they where around, cost me 50 quid. It's done fencing, my own logging, felling, it's been shoved into hedgerows to reduce them, I've hit dirt with it ( by accident ) and it's still gong strong, the choke pull broke but soon replaced it with something else.

 

Starts perfect every time, stops, cuts revs good. I've looked after it just like my stihl.

 

So with these breaking down is this down to the saw or the people who buy them? If joe public buys one and they read the manual but know nothing of good maintance then yes it would break down on them.

 

Again just my opinion on it. But I do see where you. Are coming from, but then if machines never broke down you would be out of a job.
