Fuel and Oil Loyalty

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have loyalty to a particular brand of fuel / oil and why?

For example, you might use Tesco fuel if it's local and cheap (diesel and petrol).

Also, what about 2-stroke mix; anyone bother with super unleaded, is everyone using Stihl oil at 50:1 ???

One other thing - does anyone have problems filling up "non regulation" fuel canisters (i.e. the husky cans) at petrol stations - I got so fed up with the local attendant denying me fuel because of my specialist cans that I went elsewhere...

Oh, and chain oil - Oregon???

my mate had a barney in the petrol station about filling his combi. They will let you fill one of their crapy wee plastic ones, but take in a 35 quid kite marked combi and its a no no.

red diesel i buy from the local supplier, who keeps me posted on costs, and will top up if he is passing. 2 stroke i buy a 25 litre drum of whatever he has, dirt cheap and lasts me years. never had any problems. diesel and petrol i buy from wherever i am when i need it. i used to use vegy oil for about 5 years but now it has went up i am back to stihl chain oil. the harvester chain oil is good, if you are working beside them now, i would get some off those guys and get some chain off them aswell.

Precisely! Recently been told I have to use white diesel in the chipper when roadside and only red off-highway... Anyone else heard this???

I'd have fallen about laughing :001_tongue:

Trouble is I wasn't laughing when the Police stopped by to waste some taxpayers money to see what fuel I was using in my Jensen; they dipped its little tank to see if I was running on red! I was on white at the time and kept very quiet but they made it clear that they assumed I only used red when off-highway...

Indeed, it's the tracked version - A530T, but no mention of tax etc... :confused1:

I would imagine that if you are using a self propelled vehicle on the highway under it's own power (my MEWP) technically it should be insured and either have tax or a tax exemption and be running on white unless it has an agricultural classification ??
