There are different levels of NMW,*depending on your age and whether you are an apprentice. The current rates (from 1 October 2011) are:

£6.08*-*the main rate for workers aged 21 and over*

£4.98 - the 18-20 rate

£3.68*- the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18

£2.60 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship

If you are of compulsory school age you are not entitled to the NMW. Some of your other employment rights are also different.

From direct gov site, as the guy has 5 years experience I would gues he was at least 21! Saying that I started working when I was 12!!

Well my lad has just started for me as an apprentice and the paper work clearly states that MW from 16 to 24 is £2.50 ish, going up to £2.65 in October I think.

that doesn't sound very clear to me mate:lol:

I'm not trying to knock you down mate but honestly this was taken from the dot glove website ( be all and end all!!!) I would just double check to be sure you don't get caught out!

Not that you're son will be grassing you in I hope:lol:

I'm sure he gets/ had his fair share from you above his wages!!
