Just been to a tree and it bears two different leaves, sometimes on the same stem. In a street of hornbeams, but also with leaves that look a bit oak or hawthorn like. Any ideas please?

Could be a specific cultivar who's leaves have reverted back to original form on a few branches?:biggrin:

We had a tree on the village green say 30+ft high and 18"dia, with the first 10ft one type of bark and the rest a different bark, as if glued on to of it's trunk.

 

needless to say the local tree officer decided it must come down:thumbdown:
