Teufelberger CE lanyard - Im struggling with it

I can't work out what it's for, or why you would need one, but it looks great.

Think this is what's annoying me the most , i cant understand why i bought it . It looked good as MB rightly says but its not going to replace my wire core flip line and rope grab which bites instantly and is easily used one handed . At 7.5 metres, i thought any longer than this why just not get a second climbing system ??

 

Will persevere for just now and try and incorporate it somewhere , tweak it here or there and see what happens . Thanks chaps ..

there are so few items on the market that are obviously well made, designed and thought out, the CE lanyard is one of those items that you know is a great product and highly usefull without seeing one at a show first.

 

when money alows I will be buying one, ive wanted one for a long time since I first saw the video posted in this thread.

 

to slate this item I guess one might only be entitled after some usage, might suggest at least 6 months, otherwise the opinion is really not worth even considering.

 

i doubt this thread will damage the firms product nor reputation, they do an awesome range of kit and thousands of us swear by their stuff so tuefellberger can rest assured, one sour post does not make a bad item.

In response to a few...

 

Born2trot... did you expect it to replace your flipline? its not designed as a replacement flipline, its a positioning lanyard, not designed for chogging down etc (though you could chog down with it)

 

Also the thing probably needed more time to bite effectively, and consistently.

 

Essentially as far as I can make out its just a rich mans lanyard. Looks cool and Im sure its nice but I can tie a similarly effective lanyard with a few meters of rope a pulley and a couple of biners, all told about 30 quid...

 

Also in regards to the anchor point it says that as, once again, it designed as a LANYARD, designed to position you from side D's or bridge to hold you in a position. you can clearly anchor it wherever you want. its a bit of rope, theyre just showing how it 'should be used for maximum effect'

 

If you buy one it will obviously work if you use if effectively, if not just tie a lanyard with some rope and quit nattering

The lanyard was not intended as a replacement for my steel core flipline PER SE.. But in certain circumstances ie. larger , wider crowns like what i had to do last week YES i would expect the lanyard to outperform a steel flipline ??

 

TBF i tested the said item on the ground first... LIKE THE GUY IN THE VIDEO Difference being i am 60ft up .. In saying this i understand and appreciate a much more realistic and thorough usage was in order before posting comments .

 

Hama , why would you want to take a £130 ' rich mans toy ' up a tree when Tom10 can make you one for £30 ??

I presume from your last couple of posts you were using a wire core flipline for positioning in the tree as opposed to just using it to chog down stems. I know several people that use them in this way but in my personal experience it gets on my wick, it catches on everything, you cant throw it well and they get memeory which makes life hard.

 

So, yes I think in regards to positioning the teufelberger should definitively outperform in regards to positioning in a crown (but so will my £30 one )

 

I reckon its a nice big of kit to have in the bag, but I can personally think of things id rather spend the money on...

 

If Hama or anyone else would like to pay for the materials (2 biners, a length of rope, a pulley and a hitch cord) I will happily make them all a cheaper and just as effective lanyard, but im sure everyone on here can tie a few knots Thats basically all it takes...

Yes Tom i've been using the wire core for work positioning as you say but looking for an improvement now that i'm tackling larger stuff . Making up my own climbing kit is a bit alien to me but i will definetely take your advice and have a go .

The CE lanyard is one of the most versatile and useful bits of gear I have for climbing. No, it's not a replacement for a wire core, but it is a big step on from the old flip line/ 6' strop that filled the old work positioning role. Given time to 'break-in' or whatever, and with an open mind, most climbers will probably really appreciate having one. Give it time and experiment, you might grow to love it!

I love my one, have had no problems with it out of the pack, and find it helps make fine adjustment with one hand easy, using the pully to pull in my body weight, used it in lots of anchor points above and below with no issues.

You do have to set the distel as you would with any knot in your climbing system from time to time, but thats just common sense and dont want to state the obvious and get backs up.

 

using same materials, time to tie knots, splices, package, transport, tax etc. I doubt many could knock one out for £30, i had a look and the parts individually cost over £85 + vat.

 

I think its good kit, hard to put a price on that imo
