Not sure mate, I own neither.

 

I think the Lidl is a rebranded 'Grizzly' whereas the Portek is a err.. Portek.

 

Might all be the same thing from the same factory, but I know Portek do a 'better' version which is what I'd buy if I ever take the plunge. Disks for these are readily available from Axminster Tool.

How does this unit compare to the Portek ones?

 

There both cheap but the portek one costs 6 times more. I have had a lidls one for a couple of years. I bought 2 so I could chuck it when the disk wore out if could not find a replacement easily ( how lazy is that but time is money) you probably won't get through many disks unless you are wrecking 4 ft chains. I hand sharpen but use the grinder after about 6 tickles if my sharpening is un even one side or if I hit debis in the timber. Using it every sharpen I think you will half the life of your chains.

This is the Portek I was referring to, the Ultra or something...mega money but looks a bit more sturdy than the cheaper version...
