i sunk an 020 into the back of my left calf years ago, i was in the middle of a horrible pollard trying to flush a branch that no one would ever see, both feet were jammed in at the toes at angles that arent natural, i had branches in my ears,up my nose, jabbed under my oxsters it was raining and i couldnt see for sweat nipping my eyes. the nose caught and kicked back right into my calf, lucky for allround protection. I stopped using top handles after that, whiny underpowered saws that make you lazy, and swipe about like zoro. imho

No offence mate, but thats a good case in point, from how you describe what happened you put yourself in a bad situation and got bite hard! I once cut close to my feet and legs ended up taking a very small nick out of the leather on my boots, lesson learned glad it wasn't a harsh one!

No ppe or legislation or banning top handle saws will prevent these accidents, only our actions, do you get where i'm coming from?

As a climber i work with keeps telling me its his 12 layers of skill that protects him, and i believe it!

no ones fault but my own, its the only time i have ever done it. If i had my 026 with me i would of taken out the silky for flushing the silly wee nug. the problem that day was i was fatigued and stressed, i didnt take the time to get into position, if you have done heavy pollarded street limes you will know what they are like. If it wasnt the 020 it would of been something else that day. a lesson learnt. :001_smile:
