Hi all I have been asked to sort out 10 km of path it should be 5m wide but in places it is down to 2m , the trouble is grass / rubbish is converging in from the sides and it needs scraping back. The path is made of compacted ballest

i was going to use my boxer with a sharpend blade to scrape across the top , dont fancy doing it by hand , anyone use /know of other equipment to do this

any ideas would be welcome

You'll want something a little more substantial than a boxer, you'll also need to put a vibrating roller on it once de-veged if your running vehicles on the road.

I would have thought a boxer would be fine assuming its only grass/turfs covering the ballast, a tractor and loader might be quicker tho.

I've just done 600m of road deveg today with a large bobcat, it really does pile up infront of you. Though it depends on the quality of the end result that your client wants. I'm sure a boxer would get there but I think for 10k of road you're looking at 3 days with a good machine. Plus the roller. If you're using a boxer, Blimey. It could take weeks either loosing the op money or costing so much the client faints. It sounds like a job for a proper grader IMO. Offer to experiment for a day. If you do go with the boxer a 4:1 bucket with a replaceable leading blade is what you'll be wanting.

I would have thought a decent flail would remove the sward off a well compacted gravel path. Second choice would be a mini digger, push it off with the blade, level/move the piled up stuff onto the verges with a ditching bucket, if it ruffs it up too much follow with a vibrating roller.
