I have found them good but you do need to work as instructed by doing two passes several days apart. My biggest grumble is constantly having to unblock the jet as it seems to clog very easily and this can effect the effectiveness of it as otherwise it wont burn at full temperature.

mine came with a load of spares so not need to source any although i seem to remember there were plenty on ebay last time i looked, I stick with parafin in mine as it can get seriously hot with that in it.

 

I would stay away from hedge bottoms with it! trust me :lol:

I used one quite a bit in my youth; being near a hosepipe is a good idea! I went into one of our sheds about half an hour after "gunning" some weeds and found it full of smoke where one corner was just taking hold!

 

Definitely agree with the comment about sticking to paraffin, that is what they are designed for. Mind you, I never had much joy getting it lit on paraffin; we used to keep a bottle of meths to hand.
