Is there a rate for splitting a cubic bag of logs

The guy i have just started splitting logs for thinks it would be a good idea to charge per bag i was thinking of £10 per bag what do you think?

How are you splitting? If it's by hand, you run the risk of a crap day's pay if he puts a load of knotty old crap your way. I only ever work for a day rate when splitting logs for other people, it's much safer.

A palax combi doing 4-5 bags per hour on small stuff , so when i get into the good going i should manage 5-6 cube per hour

Just wondering if this was a good price as i have around 300 tonnes to do for him

£50-60 an hour! Not your machines and no business worries, i would jump at the chance of that!

It is my machine and tractor the estate supplies two men to feed and change bags and an extra £80 for the day if i put extra splitter on the front for them to use will i cut at the back

I charge £25 an hour for me, fuel and my splitter. If I have to cross cut any of their timber I charge the same £25 per hour.

I tell clients on average they will get around 1 cube done per hour and if you look at it that way it's well worth it!

Is it a full cubic mtr bag or a builders bag at half a cube. I normally charge per day as it is less risk but if they insist on price per builders bag then I normally charge £10 a bag for only half a cube. I would certainly not be putting 5-6 cube an hour through my Palax Combi as I value my back. Maybe ok for the first couple of hours but you will certainly know about it after processing 300 tonnes.

john they are full cubes , the lads on the estate are passing the timber to me

i have been using a palax for the last 20 yrs or so , so really it is just a breeze in the park

Busy Daddy can hac it, though it must be 20 years since we worked together and the years have obviously been more kinder to me than him
