Laser measuring

Hi All,

 

With the recent revisons to BS3998 and the TPO regs, and some LPA's now requiring the finalised dimensions of the pruned tree/branch appearing on the application form.... have people given much thought or had experience with any laser measurement devices?

 

They all appear initially quite an investment, but are they worth it, do they save time, make life easier?

 

What devices also measure crown spread necessary for BS5837 reports, I have looked at the Nikon Forestry 550, which appears decent value for money, but not sure if this does this or is just a laser range/distance finder?

we,re all using the trupulse over here on utility work . esb tried every type and found it most suitable for height measurement anyway.

got them from company called positioning resources

The Leica and the Trupulse are vastly more expensive than the Nikon. Is it worth paying the extra?

Got my Leica D8 on eBay with tripod for £200.... Bargain

I use the Trupulse and it does seem to accurately measure heights at a great distance. Picks up objects much further away than a laserace when we had both on the same site. Not sure it measures the 1000m range it claims too.
