Recently bought a husky 576xp original air filter lasted about 4 weeks before breaking, replaced with similar mesh filter, seems fine at the moment, just wondered what the benefits of a heavy duty filter are? or if any 1 uses them?I'am a cutter using the saw 8 hours a day. It's not an auto tune model.

Cheers Tom

Husqvarna, on some saws, do three airfilters, 40 micron, 80 micron and the flock type (heavy duty).

One micton is 10 to the minus 6th of a meter, there you go, a bit of scientific notation:lol:

Basically, the 40 micron filter will filter down to particles of that size and will be a nylon mesh type filter with a mesh opening of circa 40 microns. 80 microns will let mor air through but also more fine dust.

The flock type will let through less air but also less dust - they are generally fitted to the home owner saws.

The flock parts are more difficult to keep clean but if you cut a lot of dusty and dead wood then they may be the answer.

Here is what you need - http://m.husqvarna.com/ddoc/HUSI/HUSI2009_AAaa/HUSI2009_AAaa_576-XP,-570,-576-XP-EPA,-570-EPA_.pdf

Page 16 - the heavy duty filter looks more like a car type paper element - it also looks like it will need the top cover with the larger filter bump - I love Husqvarna, so easy to get parts info.

God bless the Swedes:thumbup::thumbup:

Cheers Spud

Thats the filter i've been considering, reminds me of the pancake filters i used to have on my old mini. Will need new top cover. Seems USA saws come with heavy duty filters as standard, are we missing out on something?

Bump!

Just had my 576xp air filter fail about 4 weeks after fitting. Failed at the same place, a slit appearing on the edge of the centre rear mesh.

Any other 576xp owners seeing the same failure point?

Thanks for the info Spud, will be ordering a new filter and having a thunk about going for the hi top option with more robust filter.

Did you go for the one that needs the hi top cover, Spruce?

No, I got the standard filter size, far better, no problems so far (touch wood). I'd rather it pull slightly less air through the filter than have it in the back of my mind that a hole has appeared and it's pulling crap in to the carb..!!

Can you confirm what part number you have for your filter Spruce?

Looking at the part (and replacement) on my standard 576xp, it's the one from the Autotune version parts diagram. Interested to see which one you have.

From memory I think this is the part number 537 20 66-03, just double check before ordering though.... :thumbup1:
