Ok, so leaving the theft angle out of it, you have an accident with a pedestrian/other vehicle/whatever and the assessor says we never knew about this winch/accessory/modification you had fitted so your insurance is null and void. The injured parties insurance company I would imagine would pursue you personally for every last penny they could get. At the end of the day no insurance company I have been with has made sufficiently increased premiums to cover accessories/modifications I have made to vehicles.

Far better to be open and honest from the start.

In my day, modified cars were insured with Adrian Flux - Classic Car Insurance & Specialist Car Insurance | Adrian Flux

They insure classic and non standard cars, got no idea if they are competative but they have been going for ever and should have a good idea about landies!

I have no affiliation with them and haven't used their services, just have a keen interest in modded cars and bikes:thumbup:

They're not what they once were.... I had a Mk2 Golf GTi insured with them [and HIC, their main competitor when I was starting out whom they now own] when I was 19 and they were ridiculously cheap on ridiculous cars for drivers too young to handle them.... I paid about £550 for my Golf [a friend had a Golf Rallye insured for under £800 back then, aged 19 as well!]

Our Jag is insured with them [HIC] now for about £350, but they didn't seem too keen to insure me on an ancient Golf Gti when I enquired last year, aged 31..... :confused1:

As I understand it, because the insurance is compulsory the insurer has to pay out any third parties but your own claim can be voided and they can recover any costs from you if they feel so inclined.
