wireless headsets for tree work

The Bluetooth sets don’t use your phone because only has a weedy 10M +/- range and can’t be used.

The headsets have a 200m range and unlike “walkie talkies” are interference free and because the signal is digital they are a clear as a bell. Voice activated and noise cancelling technology means you don’t have to press a button and you don’t accidentally transmit chainsaw noise.

Not cheap but the quality is there. At the moment the sets are paired and can only speak to each other but multi set technology is on the way.

Oh and it’s all contained in the headset so no trailing wires.

Andy

Aha! I see.

I bought a roofmount last year, and straight away the comunication with groundstaff was a nightmare, the lad i got the tractor from had helmets made up with built in headsets and mikes. The difference was amazing, not even in tractor work but everything. we use them all the time. Climbing with them is excellent. like most i am the boss, but i am usually up the tree. i am not one for shouting on site because i hate that. but being able to comunicate all the time is so much more productive and safe. Especially when you have someone new out. Even reversing into driveways or sending someone to get something from the van, no more wandering back saying i couldnt find it, you just instruct them what to do from the other side of the house or site. All in all one of the best buys i have ever made.

hoping to have some reasonably priced sets early next year

I think this has to be kept in perspective, the cost that is. If you only need occasional use comms, then the cheaper sets with a wire are more than adequate onsite, granted they dont have the digital clarity, but if its just so you dont have to shout abuse at your groundie/climber in public it would do. If you are always on complex crane/rigging jobs, then maybe the expense of the better kit would be justifiable. The general range of the cheaper w/ts is more than enough for a climber up a tree to the man at the base, or the man in the crane.
