Hey Dan,Good luck with the comp, always a good day at comps and good fun!

Speedclimb is just climb the tree on a set route,You get belayed when you go up,Just go quick as possible.

Areial rescue.Just remember to talk all the time(hard to climb and talk i find)Climb safe and get the dummy down quickly and safely.

No sure about loosing points or what they judge on

Hope that gives you a wee idea as to whats involved.

The speed climb has changed a bit now, so Dan is more accurate in his observations of how it works.

Yes, you are on a normal climbing system with friction hitch. YOu pull yourself up and someone pulls in the slack for you. There are a couple of bells on branch to get on the way up so you just shout to the groundcrew to let go so you have full control, and then when you continue up the tree you shout for them to take in slack again.

This is JT at last years UKI TCC. Probably a winning climb (cant remember) or top three at least.

And with the recsue, there are no speed points. There is a set time to complete within, but no points for being the fastest. SO actually best to use as much of that time as possible gaining points for the rescue.

In the event of a tie in points, only then will time be taken into account. There is points for efficiency though, so if you get it all done in very good time then you could get bonus for that, but if you forgot to do somethings in the middle then fast time wont help much.

Yes, it did all get a bit geeky for a while, but in recent years its gone back to just being the best rescue wins it, the play acting seems to have calmed down a bit, but if you know anyone with an ambulance or helicopter that could arrive at exactly the right time then I reckon there would be a bonus for that!!

The good olde days hey!! Only trouble with that is a) its completly not relevant to how we work, and b) you tend to get a huge spread on times.

The new method seemes to get a much closer grouping of times. The best still win, but everybody else has a chance of at least getting a point.

So it might be that the BC comp still uses the old method. Dan, it might be worth checking that out, but its not really a problem, you will just do on the day what you told.

The B.C comp is run by the Pacific north west chapter of the ISA so its on there guidelines which I'm pretty sure is the newer safer way of doing the rescue.

Another question on the rescue. When they give you scenario e.g cut his left arm and is still conscious, are you expected just to get them down, or bandage the wound first and elevate arm? etc etc.....

if they say the left arm is broken-what they want to see is you paying attention to that arm, not necessarily administering first aid, just not banging it about, etc.. ridiculous amount of points are available for throwline and rescue so get these nailed and youll pob do okay. and just relax, esp for the work climb event.

Your getting in a muddle!! I was talking about the new versus old way of doing the speedclimb. Both are safe, but he new one is more like tree work. I wouldnt assume that PNW is up to date with new methods. Europe usually leads the way in these things.

The rescue is pretty much the same as its ever been.

You dont need to do first aid in the tree but you can say what you would be doing, thats the role play.
