So how do you trim your rope and seal it? Holding a lighter to singe a loose braid is not going to do that much damage to the structural integrity of the rope IMO.

 

I do that pretty regularly as part of my kit maintenance ... Just put it out with your finger as it reaches the body of the rope. I can't see it harming it either.

Exactly, and if the poster is worried about heat build up on their rope, how do they get down from a tree.

 

Friction hitch cord gets pretty hot as does the line itself when you tonk it outta a tree.

Use a small pair of scissors to trim it, bad idea putting a heat source next to line as the heat may do more harm than good
