My vehicles seem to really love shell diesel

I have been running bp for the last 6 months but have another fuel card now so gone back to shell. After 2 refills of shell I swear my disco van goes better and further on shell. I always thought it was better but just thought it was all in the mind. Pulling back on the throttle all the time actually makes my ankle ache so I may have to go back to bp and pay more for less miles

We had a new shape vito diesel new common rail engine, filled up at supermarket in pembroke before we got the ferry. Filled same on way home. Engine sounded like a bag of nails so booked in for diagnostic with merc. Night before we filled up with shell noise was gone before we got off the forecourt.

My father in law runs two diesels (one old Seat and a Ford C-Max).

He says the Seat will drink whatever you put in it (it's one of the three cylinder things that sounds like a bag of spanners being thrown down a flight of stairs) but he's always said the Ford goes better on Shell diesel.

I always take an interest in these fuel threads, was in the oil and gas game for a good innings. Fuel producers tend to go through seasons as such; some hold the quality better than others. I recall lab testing bp ultimate diesel and finding that aliphatics, lubricity and cetane went up and down over a 12 month period - the overall profile dropped after the introduction of the product. Shell ULSD was not good initially btw. Esso holds the award for most consistent product, Texaco not bad, not heard of shell analysis for some years but had indeed heard from TRL that they had improved in derv performance.

Could just be in the mind. Difficult to get accurate fuel mpg as since going back to shell have changed tyres and put about another 300 kgs on the truck. Weather has warmed up so less power from the battery soon the aircon will be on. But at the moment if I cruise at 70 we get 29mpg out of a td5 disco van. towing 1700kg only drops it a mile or two which is why we are sticking with the

td5 had d3 on hire with trailer always under 20 mpg.
