There are some decent ones in Greenwich Park, mostly up the hill from the Royal Observatory. Haven't been there for years, but this photo by Stephen Craven gives a good idea:

You chaps may want a trip to Cowdray then as that one I measured to be nearly 10m circumference? I went round it with a rope, then measured the rope, 9.9m!

 

Oh, and it's no pollard either!

There are some real big trees on Cowdray. Theres an old oak tree it was one of the queens jubilee trees I think or something along those lines? Theres a cracking avenue of chestnuts near Easebourne village on the estate. I worked there last year as the student forester, boy what an eye opener that was! :001_smile:Who new forestry could be that good.

The reason for the heavy handed "reduction". Armillaria "present at base". No sign of it anywhere on the tree.
