I think if you don't know the answer already no offence !! Buy a cheap 1 of both as chances are by the time you have got used to swinging and hitting a log every time you would of smashed the axe shaft to bits!!! Not good on a £90 axe.

Personally I like cleaving hammers , Best of both worlds..width and weight of a maul with almost the profile of an axe but slightly shorter shaft usually.
