Well it's that time of year again. I know I should have built them some homes of their own but I also know that even if I had built them the best insulated homes money could buy, they would still kip in the most inconvenient places possible.

Last year it was my tractor cab and of course every year they are in the shed one most wants to go in.

 

Oh well you have got to love them.

 

I am now getting worried my South African friends are late in arriving or is it still too early. Last year we had 8 House Martin nests under our eves. It's great to seem them flying about on summer evenings.

I've seen one swallow this year on April 14th; sitting on a phone line near East Grinstead. I should think it was knackered and a pound to a penny it's a goner now as we've had frosts since then.

 

Hopefully the answer to your question is 'yes, too early' as it's cold and wet - not good weather for flying insects.

Oh - nesting; had to turf out a robin that had made a start on one in my daily used tool holdall.

swallows came five days later than last year seen on 15 april.

Seen Swallows, House Martins and saw the first Swift of the year today. It was way up though.
