Yup- no problem with that at all. You can only go so far, and if they continuously fail the "I stand a chance to make some money here" test, then by all means let them go. Can't win a customer over if they are intent on not becoming a customer of yours in the first place.

Get loads of calls tapping me up for info on how to fix their machines themselves, when quite obviously that's what I happen to do for a living.

Wouldn't ring a baker and ask him how to make my own bread, so why do people think I would be happy to tell them and loose business. Hate people who try to mug me off, but I get them in the end. Ask gardenkit on here- bet he gets the same thing.

So you explain to them how to break it even further and then if it still doesn't work then bring it in and I will fix it for you:001_rolleyes:

That's how you get your 9 times out of 10 sale

Truth of the matter is there are plenty time wasters out there and are only interested in getting the work done for mates rates. It's frustrating but a fact of life unfortunately.

Not at all.

Unsurprisingly i would expalin we have a fully equipped workshop that is able to deal with their problem, and if they would like to bring the machine in we will be able to put it right.

Up to them if they want to persevere or admit defeat then isn't it.

Not rocket science being reasonable with people.

Had a very similar thing a few weeks ago, got a call asking me to give advice over the phone then quote for it at the same time. Explained that it I have to see what needs doing and site access etc, eventually he agreed for me to come over and view. Got there, two medium sized conneys to reduce back or remove. Advised that it would be best to remove and replant with something more subitable for the location. Agreed on a price he was happy with but he needed it doing the next day, Sunday, checked with my groundsman and all good, but asked him to check with neighbours first about them being ok with saws going earlyish in the morn. Phoned him back at 7 that nite and no answer, got a text half hour later and surprise surprise he said he'd already agreed to do it with someone else.

Think I would have taken the phone call in a heartbeat now.

As Pleasant has said, we get a lot of people, who we could describe as Muppetts, phoning up and asking what seem to us to be stupid questions.

I always try to refrain from classifying them as muppetts untill I have heard them out, often they are just ignorant of the subject and need educating. these can often be converted to good long term customers.

Its the ones who wont listen, and always think they know best that really get my goat. Some ask for advice and then argue with the advice given, this results in me getting wound up and taking it out on my wife. The name 'muppett' is then usually prefixed with something I cannot write here.
