Popped over to Kent today to age a few trees, this beech came out at 428, probably the second largest beech I have ever seen, stunning. There's a pruning wound as you can see colonised by Polyporus squamosus the tree is in very good health and compensating well but there's some body language in a major union that means its time to take matters into hand.

 

And amazing as it may seem, trametes/coriolopsis trogii on Ash, damn Im good!:biggrin:

What method are you using to age trees like that Tony?

 

Comparing a data set of ring counts averaged then taking DBH and working out how many rings will be there. so 12 rings per inch 10inch stem =120 years though thats a bad example as its averaged for old trees from fellings in the kent area not young trees
