Purchasing red diesel ( cherry )

Regarding the Red ( Cherry) diesel.. It is not illegal to use Red in a chipper or other stationary machine such as a pump, winch etc similarly it can be used in rotavators, power washers and all machines of a portable nature, however when it comes to mowers and tractors the view of vosa is that tractors and mowers travelling on the road must use white. If you have a tractor that has been useing red you must be able to demonstrate that you put white in the tractor via a reciept for that day ie tractor half full of red but you put some white in and have a recipt to prove it!

IN terms of storage it is reccomended that a bunded fuel store be used with a Bund capacity equal to 110% of the storage capacity therfore a 1000 ltr tank needs to have a 1100 ltr bund. (a good supplier is balmoral tanks see net!) There are also variations for forestry work and farmers who can use red diesel in tractors provided that the task undertaken is for their own farming activities eg going for feed for cattle using a tractor and trailer on the road is ok - red,, Going for the same for someone else - white..

Sorry to whitter on but have researched trhis a bit as i sometimes use my brother ( the farmers) Tractor.

I go to my local marina and fill a few 25ltr tubs. Have done for years.

Last month it was 91p/ltr.

 

I contacted a big commercial supplier the next day to compare and they wanted £1.00 +VAT per ltre for a 205 ltr drum, PLUS delivery.

I'll stay loyal to my local marina.

 

If you buy over 100 ltrs you have to fill in a Customs and Excise form, but it's no big deal.

 

Discreet and safe storage, not in your house, is also a wise move - worth checking your household insurace - still laughing at the govts gaff last month over jerry cans!!

i have a red diesel tank but it was pointed out recently that it is illegal to use unless for agricultural use. so unfortunatly i no longer use in chippers or tractor. the rules are really tight now and its not worth getting caught. if anyone can tell me different or a way around this i would be most gratful.

I have always used it in a generator, red is used in cement mixers so whats the difference with a chipper:confused1:

C&E are a law unto themselves and half the time they dont know the rules they supposed to abide by.

I would look into it because I am sure you can use red in a chipper, Tractor no unless its agricultural [depending where your job is & what it is, I would be careful there, they dont mess about & fines are huge+ they confiscate]

As far as tree surgery goes, the test for can I use red? is, do your activities involve transporting goods on the road?, yes means DERV white means red, so a chipper can use red.
