best bar for 395xp + mill

As above, what is the best size bar to work the mill on a 395xp, is 36" considered to be to large to work well?

Use a 36"on a 395 my self but you don't get that as the Alaskan will clamp the sprocket tip and seize it it it's too close to the tip.. Take the dogs off the saw? !

So are you saying the mill wont work with a 36" bar? so what is the max bar length that will work, or what is the optimum length for the 395 to work an alaskan mill?

What Matty is saying is you can use the 36" but you will have to move the clamp below the nose sprocket.

When you use the 36" bar on your mill by time you have clamped it to the mill and with having dawgs on itl cut about 28-30"

Exactly that , the dogs are pretty big on a 395 so take them off and it almost makes up for it....they should not really be necessary milling any how.

A 395 with 36"needs a sprocket unlike an 3120 or ms880 that will run a solid nose bar.

As above I'd just go for a 36" bar to work with a 36" mill.

 

Most important thing as ever - correct chain sharpening. Get it right and milling is a pleasure - a dull chain will make you and your chainsaw wish you'd never tried milling
