Stupid question but do they really make that much difference? well guess they do otherwise you wouldn't do it but can you feel a difference in the machine?

 

Yep they make a big difference. They tend to slip around without the little spikes.

Not doubting but when i first read spikes i thought they would be 6inch or summit. interesting to see

 

OH they can be! On some of the hill climbers in scotland they put some 8" deep cleets on for extra traction. Most places you just need those 1-2" knobles for extra grip.
