Just been offered a small trailer and it says max speed 20 mph on the draw bar. It's ex mod but it has leaf suspension and a handbrake, so it must be a good trailer. So I'm wondering what actually is the differences between fast and slow tow?

HI MIKE the difference is tyres speeds super singles are high speed and the brakes are larger on on fast trailers jon

I should of said I'm not meaning tractor trailers here, just smaller trailers.

HI MIKE if it just a small trailer how small with 20 mph tyres thats not for high way use that for off road use as the tyres are not speed rated high for road use and they will get to hot thats the some with old tractor trailers when you put a old trailer on a new 50km tractor all the best jon

Well, my Sankey Wolf had "max speed 40mph" on it, but I think that is just for the benefit of them military types. It's got full size Land Rover wheels and disc brakes, and proper heavy duty leaf spring suspension and shocks. The max speed thing might be something to do with off road??!?!

Cheers Jon. I've not been able to tip it so far - it's the best towing single axle trailer I've ever had. Definitely be interested to hear what your mate has to say re 40mph limit.

All Army has real low speed limits. Mainly because they keep getting smashed up. LR Wolfs have a sticker that max speed of 55mph on road even though they will safely go much much quicker cross country (driver ability allowing).

My advice ignore the sticker but go steady until you know how the tailed handles. But check the speed rating on the tyres.
