what size timber trailer cane combi

i am looking in to getting a forwadering trailer and crane but not sore what size would be soutable as i never had any dealing with any what spec would you go for in the way of controls as i am also condering a biomass head too

 

ps the tractor is 55hp

Is the tractor 4WD and modern or 2WD and old. If the latter you will probably need a separate pto hydraulic pump to run the crane as the pressure will be to low and the flow to slow. I have a 100HP MB Trac on a 9 tonne Kesla forwarder with a 202T crane and I would not want to run it with a smaller tractor. I would always go for a telescopic crane as it comes in very handy for dragging timber. The Kesla crane can also be used on the 3 point link which comes in handy when you put on the felling head.

Yes but if it is it will be very rare and our current tractor has no tail lights or trailer brakes but am looking in to replacing it any

it is 2wd and old and i knew i would need a pto pump, i was think 6 ton trailer would be soutable for our current 55hp but would like a tractor with min 80 hp on the farm any way

I used to own a Mowi Skog 8 with 2453 crane. (Sold local as was going abroad) It works on low oil pressures and simple/reliable to use (remote hand controls available) and will pick up close to a machine in one move unlike some makes. Had a hydraulic winch with 30 metres of cable for those out of reach pieces in difficult sites. It also had a movable drawbar to work in tight stands.

 

I would purchase a Mowi again without a second thought but this time the large crane on tractor linkage so can be used without the trailer where we often work now.

I expect a 6 tonne trailer would be the very biggest you could pull with a 2wd 55hp tractor.

 

Don't get a crane thats too long as you won't have the weight in the base to keep it upright.
