One million trees in one day!!!!

I have a very motivated friend friend who is organising a monumental plan to plant a million native trees in one day. The date hasn't been set yet, but there are several organisations involved, and some sites have been organised. Part of it will be for renewable commercial forestry and a large part of it will be earmarked to be left untouched and left to it's own devices. There are plans in the pipeline for visitor centres and educational tours etc. All in all a really top class idea. And a sort of karmic solution for all those tree surgeons who've taken the money and run once or twice in the past :sneaky2: If anyone with a facebook page could "like" the page and show some support it would be great. Will post some updates as it progresses. It's an Irish effort, but we'll take support from wherever we can get it.:

6 million trees over any time frame is pretty cool. Nice to know someone is replacing them as we are felling them.

There's massive lack of native woodland in Ireland, certainly a lack of old growth. This is a small first step to replacing some of it. In the 1600's it was said that a squirrel could run from Dublin to Cork without touching the ground. Not sure how true that is, but a drive along the same route today and you can clearly see how far removed from anything like that statement we have become.

The fact that its a million trees in one day, is to draw attention to what is being done, and hopefully encourage similar smaller scale projects. I have been told that the website is going live in the next couple of days, will post the link as soon as I get the nod from them that its up.

hey where abouts is this happening??

There are several sites all over Ireland. North and South. It's been in the pipe for the last year, and the campaign will be starting this week. The website will be going live in the next couple of days or so and more will be revealed then. Will keep you posted. Volunteers will be required, and last I spoke to my friend there was a text donation number to be set up.
