The chainbrake band snapped in my MS440, last week, new one arrived today, so after a quick blow out and clean up I installed the new one. No problem.

 

Apart from the fact it doesn't work.

 

It will stop an idling chain, but squeeze the throttle and the chain will run. Clicking on and off really positively, but seems to not be gripping the drum tight enough to stop it completely.

 

Definitely the correct part, never had this problem before.

 

Ideas?

The screw that holds the band in place, (fitted from the underside of the saw) is my favourite part to leave out. It causes the same symptons you describe.
