client/work data base/managment programs

Hi people,

 

im looking for a computer program to keep a data base of all my clients and past work and also re-visit dates for future work and maybe a mapping system for the trees, iv looked at alot of these management programs online but cant make heads or tales of them....

 

Any help or advice ?

Depending on your background - Microsoft Access is a reasonable place to start. Though it's not as intuitive as Bill Gates makes out.

I used to teach databases at the local college and used a hypothetical tree-surgery business as practice for the students.

It's easy to over-complicate things so just store the info you reallly need.

Also - when talking to salesmen about prospective systems , ask if their software DOES what you want. If you ask CAN IT... they will always say yes (because it can be made to do almost anything - for a fee).

Don't forgot data protection act when storing customer info..... you might accidentally leave your laptop with all this info on a bus, and then next thing you'll find yourself in the paper when someone accesses it and passes out information that a local councillor has had a TPOd tree removed :)
