Sorry - don't know how you link to a tread.

Thanks, my point is. I do quite alot of scrap when other things are quiet (we all have to get a living). And yes i do have a W/C licence. I also have a very good friend that is a Gypsy, and he's a very good business man. Neither of us would ever dream of stealing to get a living.

Don't tar, (excuse the pun), everyone with the same brush.

yes, my dad does the same - these last two wet days he has run a load of scap in which gives him his days money and then spends the rest of the day in the yard splitting wood.

He spoke to a policeman the other day that reckoned you need a special licence to carry scrap. He has a WCL already. Going to look into it with the Envir Agency.

Thinking about it, it may be a good way to cut down the metal thefts. If you remove the cash side from the business and everyone dealing with a scrapyard requires a licence then all you have to do is remove licences from anyone caught with stolen metal.

The good scrap places scan all metal waste to check for smart water marking and take vehicle details and some even pictures of the people in the vehicles.

Your spot on, the yard i take my scrap to as number plate recognition system, receipt comes off the pay out till with my name, address and w/c licence number on, no smart water test that i know of
