Universal stumpgrinder

So after much messing around, we finally settled down on the grinder project. It works exceptionally well. The first stump was a 4 ft dia. lombardy poplar, 2 ft high. it ground out in 22 minutes. Pete Mctree will confirm the stump size. It ground out 10 poplar stumps from 2ft - 4ft dia in 4 hours, and used 3 gallons of petrol. The new Kohler engine has stacks more torque than the old 27hp.

The machine in the pictures and video is not fitted with the chip guard or front guard, as the paint was still wet.

Spin it around, have your guards away from you and you can see clearer! Otherwise, good tool! Is it easy to use or to do need a modicum of sensitivity on the swivel controls?.

Pete, The hydraulic flow on the CSF was far too high, meaning the controls had to be feathered very carefully. I'm going to fit flow controls as standard, meaning you can set the swing speed irrespective of flow.

That looks great!Could one be made that would have a hydraulicly driven disc powered by an engine mounted on the counter weight of a mini excavator?

And cup holders in the cab?

Jason, we went with a 22" disc, about as big as I wanted with the small engine. By comparison, the Kanga uses a 16" disc. Thanks for the tip on the Gates Polychain. running V belts now, much better.

 

Treebogan, why would you want to bother with hydraulic drive? if you work out the components needed, it would cost about 2 1/2 times more. Hydraulic drive is very inefficient. Cupholders? no problem. you get 4 as standard, with another 8 optional

Yes V belts are much better Ed,Doesnt look 22" in the pictures but thats a good sized disc for the machine.Looks good to me

Kevlar lined, and banded to prevent uneven wear.
