Insert the core into the wire and then do a core reduction about 2 inches down. Remove 1 strand from every group of strand in the braid. Then do the taper and it should slide past the core easily. If not you've probably caught a strand somewhere-it should go in nice and easily with very little force.

I did struggle a little with the last tachyon I did, but I think I must have caught a cover strand.

 

I almost never use a wire fid on DB, do everything with the toss wand. If you yank on that it just snaps the tether, so gentle finess is the order of the day.

 

Reducing the volume of the core before inserting it is a good idea.
