What would you pay for softwood nets?

We have been in the processing business for a number of years, supplying some pretty large distributors.

We now have capacity for more softwood logs in nets, and are thinking of supplying other firewood suppliers, if of course it makes sense at a price that suits all.

So i suppose my question is, what price would it make sense for you guys to buy softwood logs in nets for?

Just had a look back through my emails for you and 45 x 60cm seems to be a standard garage net type size. I have been offered partially seasoned Softwood for £1.60 and partially seasoned hardwood for £1.90 + VAT. Minimum order was a pallet of 80 nets.

Personally i feel these nets are a bit on the small size, everyone round my way sells 40Litres and you need a 48 x 78cm net to accomodate 40litres.

Hope this helps.

Horror story my arse, though I wondered about it meself for a time. If you leave it long enough to season, it will burn fine with a moisture content below 20%. The best way to achieve it is to cut and split it straight off and keep it under cover or in a polly tunnel all summer, with the ends tied open. People who leave 8ft + lengths un split in a wood uncovered for 2 years would find the ends dry out, but the sap in the middle of the lengths are still kinda wet. I found it myself cutting some I found in a wood up the road. it was registered off level it was so wet. Thats where your tar-soot problem starts.

As for the nets, I buy empty nets 50 * 60 in a 100 pack for 19 quid odd and fill with me own wood. Price wise on what buy ready nets in I could not tell you. But around 1.50 sounds ok. Have you thought of doing it how I do it, and do a mixed bag? :)

At 1.50 a net you will be lucky to see a pound in profit before you take out your labour cost, assuming they are softwood nets. Not worth doing at that price imho.

Thanks all for the input.

We sell LOTS of soft, nearly all to the big distributors, but we have never really looked at selling to other smaller suppliers, hence the question on what price.

We do hardwood, though mainly by the bulk bag, or this year tried a few in crates, but we have more spare capacity in softwood (who doesn't!)

£1.50 per net seems a decent price to us.

again, thanks for the feedback
