Before you start tomorrow, raise your concernes to the instructor. If after that nothing is done about it, make sure that you fill in the feed back sheet that you will have to do at the end of the course. In addition if you are still unhappy and you feel that the course has not been run properly, phone the assessment centre and NPTC. Once a compaint has been made then it will be looked into and hopefullly sorted out.

Nothing to do with NPTC / City and guilds its a training issue. If its a Lantra training course then its an issue to be addressed by them. Is the instructor your training provider or a freelance employed by the training provider? If its the latter speak to your provider, they may well be able to address your concerns:thumbup1:

Sorry to hear you're predicament. It's no help now to you, but for others reading this... don't forget to do your homework and make sure you are taking your business to a trainer / training provider with a good reputation.

Right then folks, last day of training done, managed to get 4 trees down today,which is the only 4 I've felled myself throughout the whole course, but to me that still doesn't seem enough to get me upto test standard, as I made mistakes on all 4, nothing major, but faults none the less, still have only been shown how to roll out a hung up tree haven't actually done one myself, I've got to admit I feel totally under prepared and un confident in my saw skills to pass the test on Monday, oh well guess its just a case of **** or bust, thanks for the sympathetic ear fellas... :O/

Cheers mate I'll try and keep that in mind, but where I left off today I wanted to be yesterday if that makes sense, just got to hope for the best I guess, but I honestly don't think I stand a cat in hell's chance on Monday...

you'll be surprised, we asssessors arent animals or robots we have been through exactly the same processes as you candidates

& then some ,,,,,,,,,.

so talk to your assessor take your time & if you need talk through the process to yourself as you do it

 

its your assessment & no one elses be logical practical & use the process you now know

 

dont choose a tree to impress as there arent any extra points if you impress him with a tough tree ,, choose your trees wisely

find some decent big logs stand them on their end, tie to a tree if necessary and practice your cuts till your hearts content. you will be surprised how easy the assessment is mate. just take a deep breath relax and take your time, Good luck

What the Yorkshireman said is true.

 

I felled 5 big'ish larches on my 32. High winds stopped play on day 2.

 

The test was fine and I talked it all through with the assessor as I went. He gave me some extra pointers too and it went much like my 31 did.

These guys have seen it all before and know you'll be nervous as hell. Take your time and be safe in what you do.

 

You'll be fine.

i didnt fell a single medium to large tree on my 32 training, all had to be done using only half the bar length from either side.

 

got larger ones on assesment and did ok, the idea of tying up a large log and practisisng cuts works good.
